What does a BRCA gene mutation mean for men?
If you’re a woman, you’re likely familiar with the BRCA gene mutation and its relationship to breast cancer. But what about BRCA and men?
It’s not as common, but men can get breast cancer too … and men can be carriers of the BRCA gene. Here’s why it’s important for men to know if they’re BRCA carriers:
- They can pass it to children without knowing it;
- It increases chances of developing pancreatic cancer, melanoma and a more aggressive prostate cancer; and
- It may mean men should be screened for other cancers at an earlier age.
